Shrewton Village Hall and Recreation Ground offers a wide range of services to cater to the diverse needs of our community. From hosting events and meetings to providing sports facilities and space for private functions, we are dedicated to supporting the vibrant community life in Shrewton.

Our History
1. During World War II a fund known as the "Shrewton Welcome Home Fund" was opened for the benefit of the men and women of the Parish of Shrewton who should return to the said Parish after service in the Armed Forces of the Crown during the said war.
2. At a meeting of the subscribers to the said Fund held at The Hut Shrewton on the 18th day of March 1947 it was resolved that a ballot be taken by post to ascertain the wishes of the ex-Servicemen and ex-Servicewomen.
3. The said ballot was duly taken the result whereof showed a majority in favour of applying the said Fund to the purchase of the said hereditaments (details below) and the construction thereon and maintenance thereof as a recreation ground and that the powers of sale, mortgaging, leasing, hiring and managing such recreation ground should be vested in the Trustees.
4. The Trustees consented to act as Trustees for the purpose of the Deed and they are desirous of providing for the future application of the said Fund and all additions which may hereafter be made thereto and for the development maintenance improvement and management of the recreation ground in manner hereinafter appearing and accordingly it has been agreed that the said hereditaments shall be conveyed to the Trustees upon the trusts and with and subject to the powers and provisions declared and contained in the Deed.

6. The Vendor agreed with the Trustees for the sale of the property for the sum of £306-3-0.
7. In pursuance of the said agreement and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of £306-3-0 out of the Shrewton Welcome Home Fund now paid by the Trustees to the Vendor, the Vendor as Beneficial Owner doth granted and conveyed unto the Trustees ALL THAT piece or parcel of land situated in the Parish of Orcheston St. George Shrewton in the County of Wilts containing 6.895 acres or thereabouts known as "The Croft' and Numbered 93, 94 and 99 on the Ordnance Survey Map (1924 Edition) for the said Parish.
8. The Trustees shall hold the said property hereinbefore conveyed and hereinafter called "The Recreation Ground" UPON TRUST to appropriate use and apply the same and the rents and profits thereof and the proceeds of any lease mortgage charge or sale hereby authorised thereof for the recreation and maintenance and improvement of the physical well being of persons resident in the Parish of Shrewton by the provision of facilities for Physical Training and Recreation.

9. This day a Conveyance was made between the following, all of Shrewton and all being Trustees of a Charity known as "The Recreation Ground of Shrewton":

By an Order made by the Charity Commissioners on the 22nd day of June 1978 the Trustees were authorised within one year from the date thereof to sell the property for not less than £11,000.
10. The Trustees agreed with the purchaser the sum of of £11,000.
11. The Trustees as trustees convey confirmed unto the purchaser ALL THAT piece or parcel of freehold land situate in the Parish of Orcheston St. George Shrewton containing One Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty square feet or thereabouts having a frontage of One Hundred and Twenty Feet or thereabouts to The Hollow Shrewton and having a depth therefrom of One Hundred and Ten Feet or thereabouts.

12. This day a Conveyance was made between the following, all of Shrewton and all being Trustees of a Charity known as "The Recreation Ground of Shrewton":

14. The Trustees as trustees convey confirmed unto the purchaser ALL THAT piece or parcel of freehold land situate in the Parish of Orcheston St. George Shrewton having a frontage of Twenty One feet or thereabouts to The Hollow Shrewton.
