Community Garden Project
We want to restore our community garden and get it buzzing with bees, gardeners (especially kids) and visitors of all ages, who just want to enjoy being there with their families and friends.
Until recently, the community garden looked rather like this - an impenetrable jungle but without the wildlife. 7 foot high brambles were reaching over garden fences. Volunteers have since cleared the jungle, the 50+ Nerf gun bullets, the bottles, the cans, bits of metal, broken concrete etc.

They have gone further and cleared the nettles, brambles, ivy, many bushes and small trees. They have renewed the bark on the paths and planted over 100 small trees that are good for wildlife - silver birch, roan, elder, blackthorn, dog rose and crab apple.
The next step is engaging with community groups to start little projects around the garden, beginning with the 7 raised beds. Several groups have asked for a raised bed so that they can get going.
-
Scouts and cubs - 4 beds
-
Chatterbox - 1 bed
-
The Hollow - 1 bed
We can make more raised beds as needed. Please sign up!!
Meantime, our volunteers are revamping the compost heaps and the water supply.
So, please visit it and enjoy it, and join in with others in the community to grow flowers and produce for 2025. Wouldn't it be good if some of the winning entrants in the Village Flower Show were grown in our community garden!!!
